Last year, I saw one of my roommates reading this book, and she raved about it. I finally got around to getting my own copy and reading it for myself! And wow was I blown away. Hinds’ Feet on High Places was written by Hannah Hurnard in 1955. The visual journey the book takes you on is beautiful and the storytelling through this allegory is so thoughtful and impressive.
I’m not sure I’ve ever read a book like this, one that is an allegory all about God and His love and plan for us. Thoroughly impressed!

Summary: Much-Afraid lives in the Valley of Humiliation. Her cousin Craven Fear wants to marry her, but Much-Afraid has no desire to be married to Craven Fear. Much-Afraid struggles with her outward appearances as she has club feet, deformed hands, crooked mouth, etc. Much-Afraid encounters the Good Shepherd and slowly learns to place her trust in Him. She also finds that at in any moment she can cry out to Him and He will come. Much-Afraid wants nothing more than to be transformed, and the Good Shepherd wants to give her hinds’ feet so she can climb rocky terrains.
Much-Afraid is given two companions for the journey she embarks on, and their names are Sorrow and Suffering. The three of them start on their way out of the Valley of Humiliation and toward much higher places.
Favorite Character: Without a doubt, Much-Afraid. I’m sure that all of us can relate to her character and her journey that she goes on to encounter God and trust in Him. The Good Shepherd doesn’t say follow me and your life will be easier. He says follow me and your life will be better and you will have eternal life.
