The Lord’s Servant.

Luke 1:26-38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.”

Today is my birthday. Some people hate their birthdays, but I love mine. I’ll admit it, I love a day that’s all about me. And sometimes the other 364 days of the year look a little like my birthday: too much about me and not enough about Jesus.

Humbly submitting to Him and being a true servant of the Lord is something that doesn’t come naturally to my flesh. I could spend an hour each day with the Lord, but at times I choose scrolling through social media instead. I could be at church every Sunday, but occasionally I’ll sleep in just because I want to.

When the Lord placed a calling on Mary’s life that was rather unexpected, she boldly accepted His plan for her life. She didn’t start trying to turn to things of the world to satisfy her, rather she turned to the only One who can satisfy.

I want a mindset like Mary. I want to slow down and take the time to listen to the Lord. I want to work on obedience. What would my life look like if I quit questioning God and just said “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.” I want a faith like that.

My prayer for the year ahead is that my hands are open, my ears are listening, my heart is grateful, and my feet are where He wants me. I am Yours, Lord.

Prayer: Thank You Lord for designing each of us with such purpose and for calling us to greater plans than we could ever dream up for ourselves. Help us to selflessly give up what we want for ourselves and join in on the plan You’ve designed for us. You are infinitely more than anything we could want for ourselves.
